The Congregational Society of Tolland was founded in 1722 and their first Congregational church was built in 1723. In 1755 a larger church was built. The present third church was built in 1838 and dedicated on October 25, 1838. The wing on the south side of the church was added in 1977.

A set of steps leads up to a central entrance with a transom window. Four Ionic piasters are located on either side of the entrance and the ends of the church. Above the pediment a multi-tiered tower rises from the gable roof. The tower has a square multi-tiered base. Above is a belfry with louvered windows. At the top is a smaller square tower with a crenelated roof-line.

The north side of the church has eight tall windows topped with fan windows. A ramp leads to an auxiliary entrance located on the addition at the back of the church. The south side has four tall windows topped with fan windows. Projecting to the south is the addition built in 1977.
