Jeg voksede op i 1970'erne og har ofte hørt om Cheminova og høfde 42. Det har altid stået for mig som det ultimative mest forurenede sted. Men så gled det lidt i glemmebogen for mig. Men ikke for myndighederne. Der er taget hånd om det og i dag er området oprenset og indkapslet. Det er nu muligt at gå tur på stranden helt uden risiko for at blive udsat for giftstoffer. Dog er det ikke tilladt at bade, dykke eller fiske. En stille efterårsdag besluttede jeg at køre herud for at se stedet og tage billeder til dette waymark. Jeg blev overrasket over at se hvor fredeligt her ser ud. Ud over et par skilte er her ikke meget at se. Ikke noget der vidner om de mange tusind tons giftige kemikalier der ligger indkapslet nede under sandet.

I grew up in the 1970s and often heard about Cheminova and groyne 42. It always stood out to me as the ultimate most polluted place. But then it kind of slipped into oblivion for me. But not for the authorities. It has been taken care of and today the area has been cleaned and enclosed. It is now possible to go for a walk on the beach without the risk of being exposed to toxins. However, swimming, diving or fishing is not permitted. One quiet autumn day I decided to drive out here to see the place and take pictures for this waymark. I was surprised to see how peaceful it looks here. Apart from a few signs, there is not much to see here. Nothing that testifies to the many thousands of tons of toxic chemicals that lie encased under the sand.


"Høfde 42 er en høfde, beliggende på Harboøre Tange ud til Vesterhavet. Høfde 42 er kendt for at være stedet hvor kemi-fabrikken Cheminova deponerede kemiske affald fra 1957. De havde tilladelse til at deponere 3 faste affaldstoffer, men gennem tiden er der deponeret over 100 forskellige stoffer - både faste og flydende, ud mellem klitterne og direkte ud i Vesterhavet. Deponeringen af millioner af liter spildevand og fast affald fra Cheminovas produktion af pesticider foregik fra 1957 til 1962. Den danske stat har senere anvendt området til depot i forbindelse med en kemikalieindsamling i 1961, hvor kemikalierne blev deponeret direkte i klitgryderne.

Efter at Rav-Aage, en lokal fisker, gjorde opmærksom på problemet med forureningen med døde fisk og syge måger blev en lille del (5.600 m3) af depotet fjernet i begyndelsen af 1980'erne, dog først efter mange års kamp og efter at biologistuderende (Cheminova-gruppen) fra Aarhus Universitet også gik ind i sagen. Udsivning i jorden har gjort at området stadig er stærkt forurenet. Man diskuterede længe hvordan forureningen kunne fjernes; En risikovurdering i 2004 viste at giften fra depotet kan sprede sig 14 kilometer syd for Høfde 42 og langt ind i Limfjorden

Løsningen blev at man i stedet for en oprensning indkapslede kernen af giften med en spunsvæg af stål. Restforureningen består primært af parathion (bladan), malation, sulfothep og kviksølv. Indkapslingen af giftdepotet blev færdiggjort i 2006 og består af ca. 600 m jernspuns, som omkranser kernen af det forurenede areal. Arealet inde i spunsen er dækket af en plastmembran, og grundvandsniveauet bliver holdt lavere end udenfor spunsen for at sikre en indadrettet hydraulisk gradient. Spunsvæggen er garanteret at være funktionsdygtig frem til år 2021 og forventes af politikerne at kunne holde meget længere.

I 2010 påbegyndte Region Midtjylland demonstrationsprojektet NorthPestClean. Ved pilotforsøg i stor skala skal projektet demonstere, at en ny afværgemetode baseret på in situ basisk hydrolyse effektivt kan rense giftdepotet for parathion. NorthPestClean afsluttes i 2013 og skal resultere i et forbedret beslutningsgrundlag for valg af metode til et eventuelt fuldskala afværgeprojekt ved Høfde 42.

I december 2020 besluttede partierne bag Finansloven 2021, at der skulle afsættes 630 mio. kroner over fem år til den første fase af en oprensning af generationsforureninger i Danmark, deriblandt depotet ved Høfde 42. I marts 2021 begyndte man forberedelsen til en egentlig oprensning da man trak en referencespuns op, som man venter kan give oplysninger om status i depotet. Region Midtjylland står for projektet og regner med at sende det i udbud i 2. halvår af 2021, med forventning om at arbejdet med at rense op kan gå i gang i 2. halvår 2022. De vurderer, at depotet i dag rummer mere end 100 tons kemikalier."

"Høfde 42 is a groyne, located on Harboøre Tange by the North Sea. Høfde 42 is known for being the place where the chemical factory Cheminova deposited chemical waste from 1957. They had permission to deposit 3 solid waste substances, but over time over 100 different substances have been deposited - both solid and liquid, out between the dunes and directly out into the North Sea. The solution was that instead of a cleanup, the core of the poison was encapsulated with a sheet metal wall. The residual pollution consists primarily of parathion (bladan), malathion, sulfothep and mercury. The encapsulation of the poison repository was completed in 2006 and consists of approx. 600 m of iron sheeting, which encircles the core of the contaminated area. The area inside the sheet pile is covered by a plastic membrane, and the groundwater level is kept lower than outside the sheet pile to ensure an inward hydraulic gradient. The sheet pile wall is guaranteed to be functional until the year 2021 and is expected by the politicians to be able to last much longer.

In 2010, Region Central Jutland began the NorthPestClean demonstration project. In pilot trials on a large scale, the project must demonstrate that a new prevention method based on in situ alkaline hydrolysis can effectively clean the poison depot of parathion. NorthPestClean will be completed in 2013 and must result in an improved decision-making basis for choosing a method for a possible full-scale prevention project at Høfde 42.

In December 2020, the parties behind the Finance Act 2021 decided that DKK 630 million should be set aside. kroner over five years for the first phase of a clean-up of generation pollution in Denmark, including the repository at Høfde 42. In March 2021, preparations for an actual clean-up began when a reference sample was drawn up, which it is hoped can provide information on the status of the repository. Region Central Jutland is responsible for the project and expects to send it out to tender in the second half of 2021, with the expectation that work to clean it up can begin in the second half of 2022. They estimate that the depot today contains more than 100 tons of chemicals."
