The parish of Fern is situated on the north edge of Strathmore in the county of Angus in eastern Scotland. The rural parish lies equidistance between the towns of Forfar and brechin and was the site of a medieval church before the current building was erected in 1806, with the baronial style tower added in 1883.

The original church would have been sited in the centre of the curved churchyard, with the new church being built on the north-west side. The churchyard on its elevated site, consists of many older gravestones dating back to the medieval building.

The church is now out of use with services being conducted in the village of Edzell.
