The small village of Farnell consists of a few houses and parish church in a quiet location amidst woodland three miles south of the Angus town of Brechin in eastern Scotland.

The war memorial is situated in the centre of the village by the roadside within a fenced area. It was sculpted by Willam Lamb of Montrose who lost the use of his right hand during the war and learned to sculpt with only his left hand.

The memorial is a square pillar in rustic grey granite with a decoration near the top of four small squares. It stands on four stepson on one face features the inscription with twelve names:
