On August 8, 2022 Westfield dedicated a Purple Heart Monument as part of Purple Heart Trail that runs along Route 10/202 from Holyoke through Westfield into Southwick, MA. The monument is made of polished red granite and features image of the Purple Heart Medal and an image of an American flag on the slightly raised upper left corner of the monument.

Description of Memorial:
The monument is located in the grassy area of Kane Park which occupies the southern end of the traffic triangle bound by Elm Street, Union Street and the Westfield River. Kane Park honors Lt. William Hassett Kane, the first Westfield casualty of World War I and the only officer from Westfield killed during World War I. The entrance to Kane Park is located on Union Avenue opposite Meadow Street in Westfield, MA.
