The court house built in 1886 is a single-storeyed (with attic) sandstone structure with a hipped sheet metal roof, with metal ridge ventilators, and a clock tower on the Fitzroy Street frontage. The symmetrical Fitzroy Street facade, of dressed sandstone, is stepped in plan with the central clock tower and pedimented entrance abutting the footpath. The pediment is supported by four pilasters resting on a deep base framing an entrance. The entrance has double timber panelled doors with fanlight surrounded by a sandstone moulding and keystone.
