This water pump is on the grounds of the Poplar Hill Cemetery. It is located right next to the only small building in the cemetery that appears to serve as a storage location for yard equipment. The pump includes the engraving “Brockville Smart”, indicating that it was manufactured by the James Smart Manufacturing Company based in Brockville, Ontario that was in operation from 1854 until 1965. The pump appears to have originally been painted green, but the paint has chipped significantly. The pump still works, but signage clearly indicates that the water is “Unfit for drinking”. The purpose appears to be for watering flowers at the graves.
