Neogotische kruisbasiliek naar ontwerp van E. Dieltiens, 1901-1904, toegewijd aan Onze-Lieve-Vrouw en Sint-Job.

Historiek

De oudste vermelding van een parochiekerk in Arendonk vinden we in de bul van paus Innocentius II van 17/12/1212, waarin het begevingsrecht van de kerk aan de Norbertijnerabdij van Floreffe werd bevestigd, met dien verstande dat haar dochterabdij in Postel de kerk en de eraan verbonden tienden zou beheren.

De voormalige kerk, minstens opklimmend tot 1490-1500, werd herhaalde malen beschadigd, heropgericht, vergroot en ten slotte in 1901 afgebroken; de ontruiming van het omringende kerkhof en de afbraak van de oude kerkhofmuur werden reeds in 1899 aangevat. In het voorjaar van 1901, terwijl de afbraak van de oude kerk nog volop bezig was, werden ongeveer op dezelfde plaats de funderingen van de nieuwe en grotere kerk gebouwd. De eerstesteenlegging van de toren greep plaats op 8/7/1901, zie arduinen gedenksteen in de hoofdingang onder de toren, van de rest van het kerkgebouw op 9/9/1901, zie witstenen gedenksteen achter het hoofdaltaar in de binnenmuur van het priesterkoor; de plechtige inwijding gebeurde op 5/10/1904. Beschermd als monument op 6/7/1999.

Histoiry

The oldest mention of a parish church in Arendonk can be found in the bull of Pope Innocentius II of 17/12/1212, in which the right of surrender of the church to the Norbertine abbey of Floreffe was confirmed, on the understanding that its daughter abbey in Postel would own the church and the would administer tithes attached to it.

The former church, rising at least to 1490-1500, was repeatedly damaged, rebuilt, enlarged and finally demolished in 1901; the evacuation of the surrounding cemetery and the demolition of the old cemetery wall started in 1899. In the spring of 1901, while the demolition of the old church was still in progress, the foundations of the new and larger church were built at approximately the same location. The foundation stone of the tower was laid on 8/7/1901, see bluestone memorial stone in the main entrance under the tower, of the rest of the church building on 9/9/1901, see white stone memorial stone behind the main altar in the inner wall of the sanctuary; the solemn dedication took place on 5/10/1904. Protected as a monument on 6/7/1999.

Histoire

La plus ancienne mention d'une église paroissiale d'Arendonk se trouve dans la bulle du pape Innocent II du 17/12/1212, dans laquelle le droit de cession de l'église à l'abbaye des Prémontrés de Floreffe était confirmé, étant entendu que sa fille L'abbaye de Postel serait propriétaire de l'église et administrerait les dîmes qui s'y rattachent.

L'ancienne église, s'élevant au moins vers 1490-1500, fut plusieurs fois endommagée, reconstruite, agrandie et finalement démolie en 1901 ; l'évacuation du cimetière environnant et la démolition de l'ancien mur du cimetière ont commencé en 1899. Au printemps 1901, alors que la démolition de l'ancienne église était toujours en cours, les fondations de la nouvelle et plus grande église furent construites à peu près au même endroit. La première pierre de la tour a été posée le 07/08/1901, voir pierre commémorative en pierre bleue dans l'entrée principale sous la tour, du reste de l'église le 09/09/1901, voir pierre commémorative en pierre blanche derrière l'autel principal dans le mur intérieur du sanctuaire; la dédicace solennelle eut lieu le 5/10/1904. Protégé comme monument le 07/06/1999.
