Kasteel Montfoort in het Utrechtse Montfoort, werd in 1163 door bisschop Godefried van Rhenen gebouwd ter verdediging van het Sticht tegen het graafschap Holland. Alleen een deel van de voorburcht staat er nog.
Het kasteel is in het rampjaar 1672 door binnengevallen Franse troepen van Lodewijk XIV opgeblazen en niet meer opgebouwd. Wat overgebleven is, is de fraaie toegangspoort met twee zware ronde torens. Deze geeft toegang tot het binnenplein van de ommuurde voorburcht. Het eigenlijke kasteelterrein bevindt zich onder de provinciale weg.

Montfoort Castle in Montfoort, Utrecht, was built in 1163 by Bishop Godefried of Rhenen to defend the Sticht against the County of Holland. Only part of the outer bailey is still standing.
The castle was blown up by invading French troops of Louis XIV in the disaster year 1672 and was not rebuilt. What remains is the beautiful entrance gate with two heavy round towers. It gives access to the inner courtyard of the walled outer bailey. The actual castle grounds are located under the provincial road.
