The tiny village of Fortingall lies near the geographical centre of mainland Scotland in the highland part of Perthshire at the foot of Glen Lyon. The settlement is world famous for the ancient yew tree in the grounds of Fortingall Kirk, and it is at the entrance to the kirkyard to the west that the village's war memorial can be found.

The memorial was unveiled in February 1920, and takes the form of a Celtic cross on a tapering plinth above a stone base. The cross and plinth are ornately decorated in a knot pattern. The inscription of the west face reads as follows:

'TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THOSE FROM FORTINGALL DISTRICT WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919

CHUM CLOIR DHE AGUS MAR CHUIMHNEACHAN DRRA-SA A THUIT A FAIRTICHILL ANN SA CHOCADH MHOR 1914-1919'
