The Big Brown Power Plant constructed a dam to create Fairfield Lake in 1969, and the park itself was opened on March 1, 1972, initially just for day use. The original entrance followed the old Cook's Ferry Road, and can still be traveled to access the Chancellor Union Cemetery. Development followed, and the park finally permitted camping in 1976. Be on the lookout as you travel the park for interesting reading about what used to be here, including old photos of where the park was originally and how some things have changed, while others have remained the same. There are a few details about the ramp here. (visit link)

As of this posting, the entrance fee is $5 for each person 13 years and older: If you fish a lot or have a group, you might consider an annual state parks pass, which pays for itself quickly. When the ranger station is manned, they'll take care of you, but otherwise, you'll square up with the self-pay station there. Annual pass holders have a placard for their rear view mirror, and the rangers advise placing your identification into the placard. Do be aware that the park rangers patrol the area, looking for scofflaws.

There is no dock to separate the lanes, and there are cleats on the fishing pier to tie up your boat. Boaters and anglers should use common sense and avoid getting in the other guy's way, as both activities are permitted here, unlike at some other state parks where fishing is a no-no at boat ramps. At the top of the ramp is a fish cleaning station, and the parking lot can handle up to 100 vehicles.
