This 2.5 metre tall stone Cairn is for the Centenary celebration in 1938 of settling of Wangaratta.

The stone-tower Cairn has three beveled square blocks as an elevated foundation for the remainder of the 2.5m high square-based cemented rough stone Cairn. On the road side is a slightly trapezoidal smooth granite tablet, with the names of the pioneers, below an explanation of what it is there for. It is surrounded by brick pavers. The text of the commemorative plaque is as follows:

An excerpt from the 1938 article in the
Argus (a newspaper from Melbourne), on the unveiling on Wednesday, 19th October 1938, is in the Monuments Australia site, as follows:
"Dr E A Mackay [one of the centenary committee] said that David Reid whose name appeared on the monument was a son of Dr David Reid surgeon of the Bellerophon at the Battle of Trafalgar, and it was on that ship that Napoleon was taken to the island where he spent his last days. Dr Reid's character and ability attracted the attention of the authorities and from that it happened that Dr Reid came to Australia and his family eventually came to the Ovens. His widow was buried in the Wangaratta Cemetery, and his sons had played a large part in the development of Wangaratta."
