This stone Cairn is a reproduction of a typical Cairn made by the Victorian surveyor, Thomas Pinniger.

The surveyor Thomas Pinniger set up many cairns around the Yea District when he surveyed Yea between 1855 and 1856. And as the bronze plaque on the Cairn explains, this is a replica. The plaque reads:

who planned and surveyed the township of Yea 1855-56 also the Geodetic survey from Alexandra to Tallarook 1859-1872 This is a replica of Pinniger Cairns in the region. Supervised by Yea and District Historical Society April 2000
