These Then and Now photos are of Zion Lutheran Church, located on South Fourth Street in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The church was built in 1839 to replace a previous church at the site which was built in 1814 and burned in 1838. Shortly after the new church was completed, it hosted the Whig Convention of 1839 at which William Henry Harrison and John Tyler were nominated as candidates for the Whig Party for president and vice president. Harrison went on to win the presidency in 1840 and Tyler succeeded him when Harrison died just a month after his inauguration.

The "Then" photo shows the church in late 1880s and is taken from an interpretive sign near the church. The "Now" photo shows the church as it is today.
Year photo was taken: 1880s
