Left from the center of Derby, State 111 crosses the level plateau eastward, climbs a gradual ascent, then rises and falls through a hilly woods country, a wild valley (R) opening a southward vista to the broad well-shaped cone of Burke Mountain; Lake Seymour is first seen (R) at 6.7 m.

Lake Seymour lies enclosed by an irregular wooded shoreline against a back-drop of forested hills, dominated by a sharp wooded knob on the immediate southern shore. A long beach stretches across the northern end of the lake beside the highway. Seymour is noted for its fishing, but has been developed very little as a resort.

I came across this spot while touring the Northeast Kingdom Byway. As you approach the lake on VT111 the lake is pretty well hidden from view by the trees, catchy a brief glimpse from time to time. As round the bend around Oxford Rd the trees disappear and Lake Seymour is fully in sight for your viewing pleasure. I happen to catch some early beach goers in the early afternoon,
