The Smithsonian Art Inventory describes the monument as "Central standing male figure holding a flag while two other males kneel on either side of him." The bronze sculpture is the work of Lorado Taft.

The approximately seven foot monument sits atop a concrete base adding another five feet. The soldier on the left seems older than the other two carrying his rifle at the ready. The man in the middle holds a very large flag at the carry while the man on the right seems to be clutching a chest wound.
