Long Description:

The council of the imperial city of Nördlingen decided to build St. George's Church on 17 October 1427. The choir of the hall church was completed in 1451, construction of the tower began in 1454 and was finished in 1490. With the completion of the vault in 1505, the building, which is largely made of suevite, was finished. Because Nördlingen joined the Reformation under Kaspar Kantz, St. George became a Protestant town church in 1523/1525.
The 93-metre-long and over 20-metre-high nave makes St. George one of the largest hall churches in southern Germany. Visible from afar is the 89.9 metre high church tower, called Daniel, which is the landmark of Nördlingen, dominating the townscape and the landscape of the Ries crater.
