NL In Nijmegen zag ik een opvallend gebouw. De toren lijkt erg op de top van een vulkaan. De tekst op de muur geeft al meteen weg dat hier de erediensten van evangeliegemeente de deur gehouden worden. Uit het bekijken van hun website (zie hieronder) kwam ik achter een voor mij onbekende christelijke stroming; de Christian Fellowship Ministries. Grappig dat uiteindelijk alle kerken in Nederland vanuit Zwolle zijn gesticht en uiteindelijk alles dus terug te herleiden is tot die ene kerk in Prescot.

Christian Fellowship Ministries (CFM) is een snelgroeiende beweging waarvan er wereldwijd meer dan 2500 kerken zijn in meer dan 120 landen. De CFM-kerken in Nederland dragen de naam ‘Evangeliegemeente De Deur’. Onze Fellowship is begonnen in 1970, toen pastor Wayman Mitchell met zijn vrouw Nelda een kerk in Prescott, Arizona (VS) aangeboden kreeg. Pastor Mitchell trainde de mensen in de Prescott-kerk op basis van zijn ervaring en uiteindelijk was het zo dat de kerk in Prescott in staat was om enkele van deze mannen naar andere steden te sturen om daar nieuwe kerken te beginnen. Zo was de basis gelegd voor een beweging die steeds grotere vormen aannam. De kerken die vanuit Prescott waren uitgestuurd, werden met de tijd sterk genoeg om zelf weer echtparen uit te sturen naar andere steden. Mitchell kreeg geregeld open deuren om ook in het buitenland aan het werk te kunnen en al gauw gingen er mannen naar onder andere Mexico, de Filippijnen en Australië om kerken te planten.

De open deur in Nederland was er in 1978 in de vorm een kleine bijbel-studiegroep in Steenwijk. De groep bestond uit ongeveer 30 personen en verlangde naar een pastor die sturing kon geven aan de groep. Eén van de discipelen nam toen de leiding op zich. Mitchell steunde hem in het bouwen van de kerk en haalde hem regelmatig over naar de halfjaarlijkse bijbelconferenties die in Prescott worden gehouden. Zo werd de visie van de CFM in de Nederlandse fellowship ingeplant. De kerk verhuisde vervolgens naar Zwolle en begon daar te groeien.

Uiteindelijk was ook deze kerk sterk genoeg om echtparen uit te sturen naar andere steden. Daarnaast nam de kerk in Zwolle ook de verantwoordelijkheid op zich voor een halfjaarlijkse Europese bijbelconferentie. Deze wordt nog steeds elke 6 maanden in Zwolle gehouden.

Ee´n van de kerken die in Nederland werd gestart is de Deur Nijmegen. In 1991 werden Lindon en Adilee Marselia vanuit de Europese Bijbelconferentie in Zwolle uitgestuurd om in Nijmegen een nieuwe kerk te beginnen. Nadat zij de eerste samenkomsten in een woonkamer hielden, begon God het werk te zegenen en al snel sloten steeds meer mensen zich bij de jonge kerk aan. In 2011 namen Patrick en Karin Verplak de kerk over, en sindsdien heeft de kerk een enorme groei doorgemaakt.

ENG In Nijmegen I saw a striking building. The tower is very similar to the top of a volcano. The text on the wall immediately indicates that the worship services of the evangeliegemeente de deur are held here. From looking at their website (see below) I came across a Christian movement unknown to me; the Christian Fellowship Ministries. Funny that eventually all churches in the Netherlands were founded from Zwolle and in the end everything can be traced back to that one church in Prescot.

Christian Fellowship Ministries (CFM) is a fast-growing movement with more than 2,500 churches in more than 120 countries worldwide. The CFM churches in the Netherlands bear the name 'Evangeliegemeente De Deur'. Our Fellowship began in 1970 when Pastor Wayman Mitchell and his wife Nelda were offered a church in Prescott, Arizona, USA. Pastor Mitchell trained the people in the Prescott Church based on his experience and eventually the Church in Prescott was able to send some of these men to other cities to start new churches there. Thus the foundation was laid for a movement that took on ever larger forms. The churches sent out from Prescott grew strong enough in time to send couples out to other cities themselves. Mitchell was regularly given open doors to work abroad and soon men went to Mexico, the Philippines and Australia, among other places, to plant churches.

The open door in the Netherlands was in 1978 in the form of a small Bible study group in Steenwijk. The group consisted of about 30 people and longed for a pastor who could direct the group. One of the disciples then took the lead. Mitchell supported him in building the church and regularly invited him to the biannual Bible conferences held in Prescott. This is how the vision of the CFM was implanted in the Dutch fellowship. The church then moved to Zwolle and started to grow there.

Eventually this church was also strong enough to send couples to other cities. In addition, the church in Zwolle also took responsibility for a biannual European Bible conference. This is still held every 6 months in Zwolle.

One of the churches that was started in the Netherlands is the Deur Nijmegen. In 1991 Lindon and Adilee Marselia were sent out from the European Bible Conference in Zwolle to start a new church in Nijmegen. After they held the first meetings in a living room, God began to bless the work and soon more and more people joined the fledgling church. In 2011, Patrick and Karin Verplak took over the church, and since then the church has grown enormously.
