The Place:
This pergola is brand new, the plants are in ground, but not yet grown.

"The Jai Nagarkatti Monsanto Company Reading Garden at the Samuel C. Sachs Branch is now open to the public. The garden is the first of its kind for St. Louis County Library (SLCL). The reading garden sits on a 1.25 acre parcel of land adjacent to the Samuel C. Sachs Branch in Chesterfield, Missouri.

"SWT Design is the architect and project manager for the garden. The garden features native plantings, a pollinator garden, seating, a shade structure and a foot bridge. There is a large area for programs such as concerts, gardening instruction and story time. There are also quiet nooks for individuals, families or for small groups to use and enjoy.

"The land was donated to SLCL by the late Louis Sachs, son of Samuel C. Sachs and father of St. Louis County Library Board member Steve Sachs. The St. Louis County Library Foundation worked to raise funds for the project. Naming rights to the reading garden were procured by the Monsanto Company and by Susan Nagarkatti to honor her husband, the late Jai Nagarkatti. Mr. Nagarkatti was a chemist and businessman who served as the chairman and chief operating officer of Sigma Aldrich before his death in 2010." ~ St. Louis County Library, press release
