The Massachusetts Mills were the last of the large textile mills to be incorporated in Lowell, being established in 1839 by John A. Lowell and Abbott Lawrence. The original manufacturing of cotton ceased in the 1940's and the building were used by various manufacturing tenants. Between 1987 and 1989 the mills were purchased and converted residential apartments.
