Freiherr Abraham von Oppenheim und Freifrau Charlotte haben 1873 Burg und Rittergut Bassenheim erworben. Sie waren in der Bassenheimer Geschichte die größten Wohltäter der Gemeinde. Nach dem Tod des Freiherrn hat die Freifrau 1885 den Bassenheimer Bürgern das Krankenhaus, einen Kindergarten und eine Nähschule gestiftet. Zuvor hatten die Oppenheims den Schlosspark vergrößert, das Rentamt, den Marstall und das Haus am See nach den Plänen des Baumeisters Julius Raschdorff errichten, die Schlossgärtnerei und das Forsthaus bauen und die Häuser am Walpotplatz restaurieren lassen. Großzügig förderten sie den Bau von Wohnhäusern der Bürger. Noch vor ihrem Tod 1887 hat die Freifrau den Auftrag zum Bau des Mausoleums gegeben, in dem das Ehepaar von Oppenheim die letzte Ruhe gefunden hat."

Baron Abraham von Oppenheim and Baroness Charlotte acquired the castle and manor of Bassenheim in 1873. They were the biggest benefactors of the community in the history of Bassenheim.
