The Grange Hall has been out of service for quite some time. It appears the building then became the Stony Creek Free Will Baptist Church which has subsequently moved directly across the street.

A newspaper article from the Ann Arbor Argus-Democrat details a social gathering that occurred at the Grange Hall on February 17, 1902:

THE GRANGE SOCIAL AT STONY CREEK

Stony Creek, Mich., Feb. 17. - The valentine social given by the Grangers at their hall last Friday evening, under the efficient management of the social committee was a complete success. The hall was appropriately decorated for the occasion, hearts being the most conspicuous of the designs.

Miss Mabel Redner was costumed to represent Madam Fortune-teller, and in a charming manner exposed the future of all applicants to the view of themselves and an admiring crowd, as truly as possible by the art of palmistry. Miss Lizzie Pierson presided at the wheel of fortune, and everyone venturing a whirl was well pleased with the result. The exchange of valentines through the postoffice, ably conducted by Miss Harriet Lowden, was one of the pleasing features of the evening, the comic valentines being much in evidence.

An excellent program was also given, consisting of music - guitar and violin - by Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Miller, each selection being heartily encored. Recitation appropriate to the day, by Miss Ora Davis: recitation, "Instantaneous Death," Miss Lizzie Pierson. Miss Talliday of Auburn, N.Y., gave a pleasing dialect recitation. Mr. Lowden sang about the monkey, boy and angel, but not from an evolutionary standpoint, as might be inferred. Mr. Thresher, a young and good looking bachelor, gave a Scottish argument in favor of osculation. Mr. West gave an extemporaneous oration on "Rats," and Mrs. Orrin Bemis recited about "Rube" and his travels.

After the program the grand march was led by Mr. and Mrs. Miller with a number of couples in line, the hall being unexcelled for the practice of the terpsichorean art. Not the least pleasing feature of the evening was the excellent supper served in the dining parlors. Persons living in this vicinity who were absent missed a rare treat and will do well to attend all future Grange socials.

The Ladies' Aid society will give an oyster dinner Thursday morning, Feb. 27 at the home of Mrs. Marion Merritt. Tickets 15 cents.

Stony Creek, Feb 17 - H.P. Thompson attended the farmers' institute at Dexter. Clarence Davis and wife visited friends at Dexter the last of the week.

Mrs. Lucy Coe spent a few days with friends at Dexter.

Miss Iva Tallady of Auburn, N.Y., is spending a few weeks with cousins here.

Mrs. Wm. Hewens entertained a few of her friends on Friday, that day being the anniversary of her birthday.

Will Youngs has rented and will soon move into the house owned by Miss Lucinda Francis.

Mr. Campbell of Milan has bought what is known as the McGraw place. He will soon take possession.

Mrs. J.K. Campbell spent Saturday and Sunday with her parents at Hastings.

The valentine social at Grange hall passed off pleasantly, all present appearing to enjoy themselves. The Grange Social at Stony Creek

To post a visit to an existing Grange Hall waymark, you will need to post a picture of the front of the building, with the name of the chapter in the background if that is possible. Including your gps device in the picture is not neccesary, but wouldn't be cause for disapproval. If your Grange Hall has any unusual or unique features that you feel others would enjoy viewing, additional pictures are always welcome.
