Ce canon a tiré le premier coup d'un salut de cent coups par le 5è regiment d'artillerie légère du Canada, le 30 octobre 1871, à l'occasion du centenaire de la formation des Batteries A et B, a Kingston et Québec respectivement, comme premières unités des Forces Régulières canadiennes.

A plaque on the front of the wooden carriage reads as follows:

This gun fired the first shot of a hundred-gun salute by the 5th Light Artillery Regiment of Canada on October 30, 1871, on the occasion of the centenary of the formation of Batteries A and B, at Kingston and Quebec respectively, as the first units of the Canadian Regular Forces.
