Elzenwalle Brasserie Cemetery is located 5 km south west of Ieper town centre, on the Kemmelseweg, a road connecting Ieper to Kemmel (N331). From Ieper town centre the Kemmelseweg is reached via the Rijselsestraat, through the Lille Gate (Rijselpoort), and straight on towards Armentieres (N365). 900 m after the crossroads is the right hand turning onto the Kemmelseweg. (Made prominent by a railway level crossing). The cemetery lies 4 Km along the Kemmelseweg on the right hand side of the road.

History Information

This cemetery is named from a brewery which stood opposite and is in fact a collection of small regimental burial grounds, of which Plot III in particular was made by the 22nd Bn Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regt). The eight plots are numbered neither in order of date nor in order of position, and the short rows vary from one grave to fourteen, but they record the names of the units which held the trenches on this front from February 1915 to June 1917, and of some of those which, from June to November 1917, held the forward line won in the Battle of Messines. Elzenwalle Brasserie Cemetery contains 149 First World War burials. The cemetery was designed by G H Goldsmith.

Le cimetière d'Elzenwalle Brasserie est situé à 5 km au sud-ouest du centre-ville d'Ypres, sur la Kemmelseweg, une route reliant Ypres à Kemmel (N331). Depuis le centre-ville d'Ypres, la Kemmelseweg est accessible par la Rijselsestraat, par la porte de Lille (Rijselpoort) et tout droit en direction d'Armentières (N365). 900 m après le carrefour, tournez à droite sur la Kemmelseweg. Ce cimetière tire son nom d'une brasserie qui se dressait en face et est en fait un ensemble de petits cimetières régimentaires, dont le lot III notamment a été réalisé par le 22nd Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regt). Les huit parcelles ne sont numérotées ni par ordre de date ni par ordre de position, et les rangées courtes varient d'une tombe à quatorze, mais elles enregistrent les noms des unités qui ont tenu les tranchées sur ce front de février 1915 à juin 1917, et de quelques-uns de ceux qui, de juin à novembre 1917, tenaient la ligne avancée gagnée à la bataille de Messines. Le cimetière Elzenwalle Brasserie contient 149 sépultures de la Première Guerre mondiale. Le cimetière a été conçu par GH Goldsmith.
