Sgt William Johnston was born 1736 and died 20 May 1823 (aged 86–87). He and 16 other American Revolutionary Veterans are buried in the Dauphin Cemetery.

To the best of my knowledge the inscription on the headstone reads:

" In
Memory of
Mr William Johnston
who departed this life May 20
1823.
Aged 87 Years
My shall slumber in
thee ground till the last
trumpets joyfully sound, Then
burst the chains with "
