The Herndon Depot is not only in the center of the town but it is also the symbol of the Town of Herndon. It has multiple uses as the railroad it served is now a "rail trail." It serves as a museum and welcome center for the town of Herndon as well as a meeting house for the historical society and the center of events when they are held within Herndon. While the town around it has changed and become more modern, the Depot has stayed the course and remained the same.
