The Hotel Valkenhof is a small, privately run two star hotel in the heart of the small Dutch town of Zoutelande on the North Sea. The 25 rooms (single, double and family rooms) are distributed over several houses in the immediate vicinity, the breakfast included in the price is served on the ground floor in front of the bar and reception, WiFi and television in the room is included. Dogs can be brought with you by prior arrangement (albeit at an additional cost). There are some free parking spaces in the hotel's courtyard, otherwise you should park in the city's - unfortunately chargeable - parking lot about 50m north of the hotel. The hotel does not have its own website, but is represented by various booking agencies and the local tourism association (zoutelande.info).
The beach of Zoutelande is about 150m south of the hotel, in the adjacent pedestrian zone there are also restaurants and shops.
During our visit to the hotel we were warmly welcomed by the owners, the room we booked was rustic but functional, the beds were very comfortable and the shower was generously sized. The breakfast was plentiful and offered something for (almost) every taste. We only found annoying that, contrary to the assumption when booking, we could not pay with our credit card.
Our conclusion: The hotel is ideal for a weekend getaway with an overnight stay, for a longer stay we would probably prefer something more comfortable.
