Biography
López Alonso-Cuevillas, Florentino. Orense, 14.XI.1886 - 30.VII.1958. Archaeologist, prehistorian.

He was a posthumous son. After graduating from high school (1896-1901) in his hometown, he studied Pharmacy at the University of Santiago (1902-1906), graduating in 1906, a profession that he will not pursue later. His destiny was that of a government official in Madrid (1911), time that he took advantage of to attend lessons in History and History of Spanish Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the Central University.

Ramón Otero Pedrayo was also there. He then went to Orense as a Treasury official, a position he held until he retired. Here he participated in the Ateneo (1914), appearing his first articles, on politics and literary criticism, in El Miño; then in La Zarpa, Diario de Orense, El Heraldo, Mission, La Región, Pueblo Gallego, Faro de Vigo, La Noche.

His socio-political ideology was that of the magazine La Centuria in which he collaborated with Vicente Risco, a cosmopolitan.

He was attracted by Irmandades da Fala, the Galician style of Losada de Diéguez, Risco, etc. He was a regular talkative of the Museum's Monuments Commission (with Marcelo Macías, Vázquez Núñez and others); of the Nòs Generation, he was a founding member of the magazine Nòs (1920), the archaeologist of the group, but he also wrote narrative and essay, brief in both cases but highly chosen. He was one of the first diffusers of Galician as a scientific and cultural language. In 1924 he joined the Seminary of Galician Studies, in the Prehistory section that he systematizes, collaborating closely with Fermín Bouza-Brey Trillo.

Through practice and relationship with other researchers from inside and outside, especially Portuguese, he ended up being a prestigious prehistorian, archaeologist and ethnographer, dedicating his life to this facet of Galicia.

It can be seen in their collaborations in numerous magazines: they are surveys, excavations, monographic works, cataloging of lands of Celanova, Carballiño, Barbanza, Lobeira, Melide, Deza, Sabiñao ... and specific places such as San Cibrau das Las, Troña, Lobeira, Maus de Salas, etc. There are more than three hundred and fifty contributions to the Gran Enciclopedia Gallega (t. 19: 141-147) on issues of prehistory of Galicia, with titles such as A Cibdade de San Ciprián das Lás, Os dólmenes do Monte das Motas, Contribution ò estudo do Galician megalithism, As mámoas do concello de Rairiz, Note encol do tesouro da Golada, A Edade de Ferro na Galiza, O Neixón, As antas das Maus de Salas, Catalog of two Galician forts, The Galician neo-eneolithic civilization, The rooms of the castros, The megalithic culture of the NW peninsula, The statues of Logrosa, A stone hammer, among others. He also taught History in a private center. Numerary of the Royal Galician Academy (1941), he was also a correspondent of the Royal Academy of History, of the Padre Sarmiento Institute, president of the Commission of Monuments of Orense, of the Society of Classical Studies, of the Portuguese Society of Anthropology and Ethnography , the Association of Portuguese Archaeologists, the International Institute of Anthropology of Paris, the Martins Sarmento de Guimarâes Society, the German Archaeological Institute, the Spanish Society of Anthropology, Ethnography and Prehistory, the Marcelo Macías Group of the Orense Museum.
