The first burial was in 1817, with the cemetery being formalized in 1924 and designed to include a special area for soldiers. This circular area is around 3200 square feet, with a United States flag in the center. Approximately 325 veterans are buried in this special section, with current placements available.


The first woman placed in the circle was a nurse in World War I, Lucy Osler Porter in 1942.

One of the solders is Cpl Loweranitis who was killed in action in Vietnam:
