Herman Karel Ogilvy se narodil 31. 12. 1679 v Praze a byl vychován na Morave. Stejne jako jeho otec vstoupil do císarské armády jako mladík v roce 1693 a stal se praporecníkem. Roku 1695 byl panošem císare Leopolda I. a v roce 1705 v hodnosti majora bojuje ve Francii. Roku 1713 se úcastnil bitvy u Belehradu a v následujících letech prošel tažením proti Turkum. Po jeho skocení byl povýšen na plukovníka. Od roku 1720 byl majitelem pešího pluku c. 52, roku 1723 byl jmenován generálmajorem a o deset let pozdeji (27. ríjna) polním podmaršálkem. Ve stejný rok se stal i vojenským velitelem Prahy. Roku 1735 dostal hodnost generála-polního zbrojmistra a v roce 1739 byl po bitve u Grotzka povýšena do stavu ríšských hrabat.

Herman Karel hrabe Ogilvy se oženil ve Vídni 20. února 1713 s Esther Annou Reginou (nar. 7. srpna 1692), dcerou hrabete Raimunda von Welz-Eberstein. Esther Anna byla na saském dvore dvorní dámou. Manželé spolu meli celkem deset detí, 5 synu a 5 dcer.

Herman Karl Count Ogilvy married Esther Anna Regina (born 7 August 1692), daughter of Count Raimund von Welz-Eberstein, in Vienna on 20 February 1713. Esther Anna was a lady-in-waiting at the Saxon court. The couple had a total of ten children together, five sons and five daughters.
