Colonel Merrick asks Siegfried to visit one of his cows. Siegfried forgets the appointment until the next day, by which time the Colonel has hired another vet and annoys Siegfried. Siegfried decides to teach the Colonel a lesson and arranges for the practice to open up the cow’s stomach to see if there is wire inside. The Colonel is invited to watch the procedure at close quarters. When Siegfried punctures the stomach the contents cover everyone present, in particular the Colonel.
The operation on the cow takes place in the field below the Hall. The now shot is taken from the road that runs in front of the field, as the Hall only opens once a year for charity, and is closed otherwise.
