"Edificado en 1764 sobre un proyecto de Feliciano Míquez, o Edificio Arquivo recibe este nome en tanto foi custeado polas sete provincias do Reino de Galicia [entre as que se contou Betanzos ata 1834] co obxecto de ser a sede do arquivo da Real Audiencia. Sendo con toso un dos edificios civís máis importantes da cidade [e mesmo do Estado pois foi o primeiro edificio destas características en España] nunca chegou a albergar as actividades proxectadas, debendo o nome popular [Liceo] ao Liceo Recreativo de Artesáns que lle deu uso dende mediados do século XIX. É o meirande símbolo en pé do Antigo Reino de Galiza.
