"Edificado entre os anos 1775 e 1780, o Colexio de Orfas ten o seu precedente no antigo Hospital d aAnunciata [actual convento das MM AA Recoletas], lugar onde exercían a súa obra as fundacións de Dª Úrsula Menéndez de Texeda e de Dª Xohana Díaz de Lemos. O Colexio recollía as nenas, educábaas e preparábaas para casar, proporcionándolles mesmo o correspondente dote matrimonial.
Máis adiante pasaría a ser escola pública e de 1947 a 1989, biblioteca municipal, antes de destianrse a outros servicios públicos."
