[FR] La Gendarmerie nationale française est une force armée chargée des missions de police et placée sous la tutelle du ministère de l'Intérieur. Contrairement aux policiers, ses membres sont des militaires. Héritière de la Maréchaussée, la Gendarmerie est l'une des plus anciennes institutions françaises. De nombreux pays dans le monde ont adopté le principe d'une force de police à statut militaire directement inspirée par la Gendarmerie française.
La Gendarmerie est habituellement chargée de la sécurité dans les zones rurales et dans les zones périurbaines, alors que la Police nationale est chargée de cette mission dans les zones urbaines. Les deux forces ont ainsi chacune une zone de responsabilité propre, dites ZGN pour la Gendarmerie nationale, ou ZPN pour la Police nationale. La ZGN représente environ 50 % de la population française et 95 % du territoire national.

La Gendarmerie assure trois types de missions :
- missions de police judiciaire ;
- missions de police administrative ;
- missions militaires de police et de défense.

Depuis 2009, la Gendarmerie nationale, qui fait partie des forces armées françaises est rattachée au ministère de l'Intérieur aux côtés de la Police nationale et de la Sécurité Civile. Placée sous l'autorité budgétaire et opérationnelle de ce ministère, elle conserve néanmoins son statut militaire. Certaines unités sont placées pour emploi au ministère des Armées, comme les gendarmeries spécialisées, le département Gendarmerie du service historique de la Défense et comme certains personnels détachés. La Gendarmerie nationale et ses personnels restent cependant sous la tutelle de ce dernier ministère concernant le statut militaire de l'Arme et de la majorité de ses effectifs, les missions militaires et les opérations extérieures (« Opex » dans le jargon militaire) pour les missions de prévôté et autres.

La Gendarmerie Nationale de Luynes est située au 5 Avenue du Clos Mignot, face au Centre Hospitalier.

[EN] The French National Gendarmerie is an armed force in charge of police missions and placed under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior. Unlike the police, its members are military. Heir to the Maréchaussée, the Gendarmerie is one of the oldest French institutions. Many countries around the world have adopted the principle of a police force with military status directly inspired by the French Gendarmerie.
The Gendarmerie is usually responsible for security in rural and peri-urban areas, while the National Police is responsible for this mission in urban areas. The two forces thus each have their own area of responsibility, known as ZGN for the Gendarmerie Nationale, or ZPN for the Police Nationale. The ZGN represents about 50% of the French population and 95% of the national territory.

The Gendarmerie carries out three types of missions:
- criminal police missions ;
- administrative police missions ;
- military police and defence missions.

Since 2009, the Gendarmerie nationale, which is part of the French armed forces, has been attached to the Ministry of the Interior alongside the National Police and the Civil Security. Placed under the budgetary and operational authority of this Ministry, it nevertheless retains its military status. Some units are placed for employment at the Ministry of the Armed Forces, such as specialized gendarmeries, the Gendarmerie department of the Historical Defence Service and some detached personnel. However, the National Gendarmerie and its personnel remain under the supervision of the latter Ministry concerning the military status of the Army and the majority of its personnel, military missions and external operations ("Opex" in military jargon) for provost and other missions.

The National Gendarmerie of Luynes is located at 5 Avenue du Clos Mignot, in front of the Hospital.

Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Sundays and public holidays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

I have had NO problems with taking photos of Police stations but please respect the fact that some services may be nervous about having their photo taken and inquire as to why... I have found that once things are explained they are more than happy to let me photograph the building, crest, chief... (they are people too!)
