"Until 2008, Dutch law required that there should be one telephone box for every 5000 inhabitants, but State Secretary Heemskerk put an end to that obligation in that year. As a result, the telephone booth will gradually disappear from the streets.

At the beginning of 2016, the NOS conducted research into places in the Netherlands where telephone booths could still be found. At that time there were only a handful of traditional telephone boxes in the Netherlands. At that time, however, 261 telephones could be found throughout the Netherlands."
