Neues Gebäu. Vornehme Zurückhaltung zeichnet
den zwischen 1751 und 1752 erbauten Stadt-
palast des Obersten Andreas von Salis-Soglio aus.
Die grauen Fassaden sind sparsam geschmückt
und mit den Fenstern rhythmisch unauffällig
gestaltet. Weniger zurückhaltend zeigt sich
das Innere des Gebäudes, das auch Graues Haus
genannt wird: Die teils getäferten, teils mit Stuck
dekorierten Zimmer sowie ein grosser, prunkvol-
ler Saal mit einem venezianischen Lüster haben
repräsentativen Charakter. Diese stattliche Wir-
kung kommt heute der Regierung des Kantons
zugute, die das Gebäude 1803 zum Regierungssitz
auserwählt und vier Jahre später gekauft hat.
