The church built in 1790 is a Grade II* listed building. It was designed by architect Thomas Stringer and paid for by three "Ladies of the Manor of Alsager", Mary, Margaret and Judith Alsager.
To celebrate the centenary of the church a new organ was acquired and dedicated in 1889.
It was a chapel of ease to St Bertoline's Church, Barthomley, and in 1946 it became a parish church.

A report about the church appeared in the Crewe Chronicle on 2nd September 2009, and reads as follows;

'Offenders from Cheshire Probation Service helps restore Christ Church in Alsager'

A VICAR has been singing the praises of a team of offenders for helping to restore the dignity of a cemetery.
The graveyard at Christ Church, in Alsager, was ‘a mess’ because it was untidy and the grass needed cutting.

According to the vicar, the Rev Toby May, it was very upsetting for bereaved relatives who came there to pay their respects.

But the problem has now been sorted after the offenders, under the supervision of the probation service, came to the rescue.

They have all been sentenced by local magistrates to do Community Payback work as a way of paying their dues to society.

Mr May said: “We have a lively congregation and we employ youth and children’s workers. We used to have a couple of volunteers who would keep the churchyard tidy.

“One of them changed job and could no longer do it and the other volunteer has been unwell and can’t manage it any more. As a result, the grass got up to about a metre high and we ended up with a lot of people upset.

“Having help from the Probation Service has been great. They have got things under control.

“People appreciate that and we see what’s being done as a good thing.”
