The Pioneer Telephone Cooperative has its headquarters in the beautiful two-story brick building at the corner of Main Street (Highway 81) and E. Robberts Avenue. The cooperative was the brainstorm of Oklahoma State Senator Ray Boecher who served as the company's first General manager in 1953. When he became C.E.O. in 1975, Johnnie Ruhl was promoted to General Manager and joined Senator Boecher in providing leadership during the company's continued explosive growth. Pioneer brings telephone, internet, cellular and wireless broadband to the residents and businesses in Western Oklahoma.
At the southwest corner of the headquarters building, the original canted entrance has been remodeled to showcase these two men and their importance to the company. In 2004, a polished black granite plaque was mounted to the brick wall by the company, honoring Johnnie Ruhl.
