The scene is is a rather romantic one showing the King with sword in his right hand and his horse rearing on its hind legs.

But then the pub is next to an even more romantic gilded statue of the king on his horse where he is depicted as a Roman Emperor.

King William came to the throne after a hotly contested dispute with King James II and Hull was the first English city to declare its allegiance to William III.

It's probably no surprise then that the pub next to the statue would be called King William.
