10,000 Suns is an annual project to reclaim and invigorate a former I-195 highway domain and urban wasteland in Providence, RI. Ten-thousand sunflower seeds are planted annually under the auspices of local landscape architecture firm Design Under Sky. The flat site is just east of the Providence River and free to the public. Great experience for all the senses -- and taking photos!
Ten Thousand Suns is a summer-long botanical performance, founded in 2016, in which over 10,000 sunflower seeds are planted and nurtured of the course of the summer months on land, that until recently, sat under a highway with high compaction, low-organic material, and embedded with toxicity. A portion of the performance is simply the presence of those who care for the field to "develop" a garden/park for everyone to enjoy and transform the site into a bio-diverse and artfully constructed habitat.

On-street parking along South Water Street and South Main Street is adjacent to the field, though available spaces may be limited on the weekends, especially on Sundays during the Providence Flea, a weekly outdoor market held just northwest of the field. (That's fun, too.)

For the preservation of this locality, collection or picking is prohibited.
But you knew that and would totally be respectful anyway.
