Zaterdagochtend 2 maart (2013) zal Mieke Vestdijk, de weduwe van Simon Vestdijk het bronzen standbeeld van de in 1971 overleden schrijver onthullen. Beeldhouwer Jaap te Kiefte ontwierp het bronzen beeld in 1996 en toont Vestdijk schrijvend achter zijn werktafel. Het beeld staat op het Kerkplein voor de Maartenskerk.

Simon Vestdijk (Harlingen, 17 oktober 1898 – Utrecht, 23 maart 1971) was een Nederlands romanschrijver, dichter, essayist, vertaler, muziekcriticus en arts. Vestdijk was auteur van ongeveer 200 boeken en daarmee een van Nederlands productiefste schrijvers. Zijn werk bestaat uit 24 dichtbundels, 33 essaybundels, 57 novellen en korte verhalen, 52 romans en 2 nagelaten romanfragmenten, gepubliceerde briefwisselingen en vele vertalingen. Bovendien schreef hij honderden artikelen voor dag- en weekbladen. Hij is niet bij één bepaalde stroming in te delen. Vestdijk zag zichzelf als "een typisch romantische schrijversfiguur". Hij heeft de laatste 30 jaren van zijn leven in Doorn gewoond.

Saturday morning, March 2 (2013), Mieke Vestdijk, the widow of Simon Vestdijk, will unveil the bronze statue of the writer who died in 1971. Sculptor Jaap te Kiefte designed the bronze statue in 1996 and shows Vestdijk writing behind his desk. The statue is on the Kerkplein in front of the Maartenskerk.

Simon Vestdijk (Harlingen, October 17, 1898 – Utrecht, March 23, 1971) was a Dutch novelist, poet, essayist, translator, music critic and physician. Vestdijk was the author of approximately 200 books, making it one of the most prolific Dutch writers. His work consists of 24 volumes of poetry, 33 collections of essays, 57 novellas and short stories, 52 novels and 2 novel fragments, published correspondence and many translations. He also wrote hundreds of articles for daily and weekly newspapers. It cannot be categorized into one particular movement. Vestdijk saw himself as "a typical romantic writer's figure". He has lived in Doorn for the last 30 years of his life.
