The level crossing is located next to Alsager railway station on Sandbach Road South, just a short distance from Alsager town centre.

The railway line that the road crosses is located 6 miles east of Crewe on the Crewe to Derby Line, a Community Rail Line also known as the North Staffordshire line and connects the town of Alsager, with London Euston via Stoke and Crewe.

The report by Belinda Ryan about a crash that occurred on the level crossing appeared on 30th June 2020 on CheshireLive, and reads as follows;

Network Rail says some services between Crewe and Kidsgrove may be delayed as repair work is being carried out

Emergency services were called and rail services disrupted when a pick-up truck crashed and overturned at the level crossing at Alsager.

The 24-year-old driver from Stoke managed to free himself from the wreckage and was assessed by paramedics at the scene following the collision, which was reported at 10.35pm on Monday.

One fire engine from Alsager and another from Crewe were involved in recovering the vehicle.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Crews used equipment to remove the pick-up truck away from the train line and make the vehicle safe. One casualty was assessed by paramedics.”

A Network Rail spokesperson told CheshireLive today: “We thank passengers and road users for their patience while our engineers fix the level crossing at Alsager station which was badly damaged by a car at 10.37pm last night.

“The level crossing is being manually controlled so the road and railway can stay open while repairs continue. Passengers are advised to check www.nationalrail.co.uk with train services between Crewe and Kidsgrove subject to minor delays.”

One driver said this morning “I had to wait about 15 minutes. They were controlling people going through there when I was on my way to work at about 8.15am. They were doing a good job of dealing with the traffic.”

Alsager Fire Station tweeted yesterday morning: “An unusual incident last night. We attended an RTC, vehicle overturned on the level crossing at Alsager Railway Station. Casualty had self extricated and in care of @NWAmbulance. Swift work by crews to remove vehicle from tracks for @BTPCheshire.”
