Born on December 29, 1992 in California, Justin moved to Rush Springs in 2003 with his mother. Sadly, his mother passed away in 2004, and Justin was being raised by the Nottingham family in Rush Springs. As a freshman at the high school, he loved sports and was active in baseball, basketball, golf and football.
On the night of November 2, 2007, Justin received a serious head injury after a tackle and passed away. The town and school was devastated by the loss of this caring and popular young man. In memory, they installed a large granite table an benches near the front entrance of the school in his memory. Engraved in the granite are the words "In loving memory Justin R. Barney" and "Living life one inning at a time." A granite cube on the tabletop has photos of this well-loved 14 year old.
