The plaque is roughly 8 inches in diameter and is a few inches above the CA state marker plaque. It features one of the ships which first landed here in 1769. The plaque says, "Near this point, sea and land parties of the Portolá-Serra expedition met in 1769. Two ships, the San Antonio and San Carlos, anchored on May 4-5 and the scurvy-weakened survivors of the voyage established a camp, where on May 14 and July 1 they greeted the parties coming overland from Baja California. Together, they began the Spanish occupation of Alta California."
