"The alarm is tested once a month in the Netherlands, on the first Monday of the month at noon, to check that the siren works and can be heard everywhere, but also to keep the alarm system in the public consciousness.

The air alarm is a sound signal to warn the population of dangerous situations. A siren has traditionally been used for this alarm system, which is why the alarm is also called the siren.

The air alarm was once introduced to warn the population of an air raid, but it can also be used for other dangers, such as air pollution."
