The current cemetery in Geesbrug was established around 1910 for the then Zwinderscheveld, Langerak and Geeserveld by the Oosterhesselen municipality on the initiative of Evangelist Hellendoorn (Reformed Church Zwinderscheveld, later Nieuwlande) with support from other interested parties. Geesbrug General Cemetery also contains the graves of two Commonwealth airmen who died on 29th September 1944 and a Dutch Resistance hero's grave. He died at August 15th, 1944.
