The Church of Christ the King was originally constructed in Pine Creek in 1906 and relocated to its present site in Tennant Creek in 1936, the Church is associated with the early growth of the region following the discovery of gold and other minerals.
The church is corrugated galvanised iron clad over a timber and iron frame with a flat iron spire, and lined with masonite and caneite louvre windows,
During the transportation of 760km the trucks got bogged and the loads were off-loaded onto the side of the road, much of the original timbers were washed away by floodwaters never to be seen again, subsequently the church became known as the "Longest Church in Australia"
