DE: Unter der Herrschaft des Kölner Erzbischofs Hermann IV. von Hessen wurde in den Jahren 1491 bis 1493 an der Stelle der ehemaligen Brühler Synagoge das Kloster und die direkt an das Kloster anschließende Kirche St. Maria von den Engeln für den minderen Franziskanerorden (ordo fratrum minorum) erbaut. Nach Fertigstellung lebten insgesamt etwa 40 Brüder in dem Gebäude.
Mit der Bestimmung zum Noviziatskloster 1585 und der darauf steigenden Zahl von Novizen mussten 1652 mehrere Anbauten durchgeführt werden. Diese waren aber leider unsachgemäß, so dass bereits in den Jahren 1714 bis 1718 durch den Kurfürsten Clemens August veranlasst ein Neubau der Klosterräume vorgenommen werden musste. Die dadurch entstandenen Räumlichkeiten für ein durch die Franziskaner geführtes Krankenhaus wurden am 18. Oktober 1783 auf Beschluss des Magistrates in eine höhere Franziskaner-Schule umgewandelt.
Das Gebäude wurde 1802 von der französischen Regierung nach der Besetzung des Rheinlandes säkularisiert, die Schule blieb erhalten und wurde in eine normale Sekundärschule umgewandelt. Im weiteren Verlauf wurde das Gebäude als Handelsschule (1814 - 1821), Lehrerkolleg und Taubstummenschule (1821 - 1925), Berufsschule (1927 - 1944, sowie 1955 - 1987) und seitdem als Bürgeramt des Rathauses Brühl genutzt.

EN: Under the rule of the Archbishop of Cologne, Hermann IV of Hesse, the monastery and the church of St. Mary of the Angels for the minor Franciscan order (ordo fratrum minorum) were built on the site of the former Brühl synagogue between 1491 and 1493. After completion, a total of about 40 brothers lived in the building.
When it was designated a novitiate monastery in 1585 and the number of novices increased, several additions had to be made in 1652. Unfortunately, these were improper, so that the electoral prince Clemens August had to rebuild the monastery rooms between 1714 and 1718. The resulting premises for a hospital run by the Franciscans were converted into a Franziskan secondary school on October 18, 1783 by decision of the magistrate.
The building was secularized by the French government in 1802 after the occupation of the Rhineland, the school was retained and converted into a ordinary secondary school. The building was subsequently used as a commercial school (1814 - 1821), a teaching college and school for the deaf and mute (1821 - 1925), a vocational school (1927 - 1944 and 1955 - 1987) and since then as the town hall offices of Brühl.
