The grave of Mary Goose is believed by some to be the final resting place of the famous Mother Goose of nursery rhyme fame. It is located in the Granary Burial Ground on Tremont Street in Boston, MA.

The grave of the woman said to be Mother Goose is marked by a slate grave stone with a winged death skull in the lunette. The stone is inscribed:
HERE LIES Ye BODY OF
MARY GOOSE WIFE TO
ISAAC GOOSE; AGED 42
YEARS DECD OCTOBER
Ye 19th 1690
Tour guides are happy to point out to tourist that this is the grave of Mother Goose. Other than the surname Goose there is scant evidence to verity the claim. Nonetheless, why make the lack of evidence stand in the way of a good story? Especially when it delights visitors both young and old.
What is known is that Mary Goose died young and Isaac Goose then married a woman named Elizabeth. Since there is no gravestone for Elizabeth in the Granary Burial Ground it is assumed that she his buried in this grave. Especially since it was a common practice in colonial Boston to bury several people in the same grave. It is Elizabeth Goose, Isaac's second wife, that is thought to be Mother Goose - but even that is questionable.
