The Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank (BLKB) has set up 150 benches with historical information throughout the canton of Basel-Landschaft for its 150th anniversary. Each bank contains a different year and a sign with historical information about the place.

The text:

"Ziefen 1951

The former farming and passementerie makers village of Ziefen has a number of protected cultural assets: magnificent fountains, typical trimmings-maker houses, the church of St. Blasius with the sacristan's house, wash houses (so-called "Buchhüsli") or the doctor's house no. 79 in the lower village. For decades it was the center of the village and served as a doctor's office. The builder was Dr. med. Johann Jakob Matt (1814-1882). Matt was not only an expert and esteemed physician, but also supported the still young canton of Basel-Landschaft in its difficult development work. He was several times president of the cantonal council and represented his canton at the Federal Diet of Switzerland in Baden or helped to found the Schweizerische Centralbahn or the Basellandschaftliche Zeitung. His eulogy was held by none other than his friend Martin Birmannn, then member of the Council of States and inspector for the poor.

(150 benches have been donated by the Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank on the occasion of its 150th anniversary. All bear a year from the year of foundation 1864 until the year of the anniversary in 2014.)"

"Ziefen - 1951

Das ehemalige Bauern- und Posamenterdorf Ziefen kann einiges an geschütztem Kulturgut herzeigen: prächtige Brunnen, typische Posamenterhäuser, die Kirche St. Blasius mit Sigristenhaus, Waschhäuser (sog. «Buchhüsli») oder das Doktorhaus Nr. 79 im Unterdorf. Über Jahrzehnte war es Dorfmittelpunkt und diente als Arztpraxis. Der Erbauer war Dr. med. Johann Jakob Matt (1814-1882). Matt war nicht nur ein fachkundiger und geschätzter Arzt, sondern unterstützte den noch jungen Kanton Basel-Landschaft in seiner schweren Aufbauarbeit. So war er etliche Male Landratspräsident und vertrat seinen Kanton an der Tagsatzung zu Baden oder half mit, die Schweizerische Centralbahn oder die Basellandschaftliche Zeitung zu gründen. Seine Grabrede hielt kein Geringerer als sein Freund Martin Birmannn, damaliger Ständerat und Armeninspektor.
